Minute Meditations

Our Candidate

Sunday 3rd August

Image showing the beauty in the creation of God.

Less than one half of all the people who voted in the recent presidential election wanted Richard Nixon to be the next president. Although the majority of voters voted against him, he is the president-elect of the United States.

Our candidate did not run. Very few people in the United States want him to be their ruler. He is not popular with the big political bosses nor the labor unions. The fact that most of the people would not pick him will not prevent him from taking the reins of government at the appointed time. When he takes office he will not be faced with an antagonistic congress as will Nixon. Every single subordinate will see eye to eye with their commander in chief. No one will override his veto and his word will be final in every instance.

”He shall not judge after the sight of his eyes; neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.”

Our candidate will not be president of the United States. He will be king of the world. His term will not be four or eight years, for he shall reign for 1000 years. The president of the United States will have to resign from hi, office as will the ruler of every other country. This is because ”the Lord shall be king over all the earth; in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.” There are problems facing this country and the world today which no man can solve. In order to get elected, candidates try to give the impression that they will stop the war, curb inflation make our streets safe, etc. but in actual fact crime and violence will continue until our candidate assumes control. World conditions will continue to deteriorate for ”evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived” for ”in the last days perilous times shall come.”

Just how bad things will get before our candidate, Jesus Christ, returns to personally put things right, we cannot say, but this we know, he will come. When he comes he will break in pieces and consume all the kingdoms of the world. He will ”take vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Like mortal rulers, those who will rule with him will be those who believed in him before he was king. Nixon will bring to Washington his own group of faithful party workers and out will go the present administration and all their followers.

If we belong to Christ’s party, we cannot be a part of those who are now in high places. His kingdom is not of this world. Our Master has told us, ”1f ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” John said, ”The world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” Our candidate will never be picked by the majority of the people but we couldn’t care less. He has been picked by His Father who said, ”This is my beloved son, hear ye him.” We hear him, we believe in him, we work for him, we look forward to reigning with him. He is worthy to reign for he ”wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by his blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

His day is coming. His day will be our day too if we have been careful not to get mixed up in the affairs of this life ”so that day come upon us unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
